Lens Protocol uses a graph database (GDB) to establish its social graph. In case you don’t know, a GDB is a type of database that uses complex structures called graphs to store data. Graphs are made up of nodes and edges which connect the nodes, and they can be used to show relationships between network members.

In contrast, Lens Protocol’s social graph which is based on smart contracts provides access to data for everyone. This means that not only users and third parties, but even projects wanting to integrate the service have access to it. With a centralized network operator, profiles, content, and connections would be locked up and kept hidden.
