The United Nations announced that the world’s population will reach 8 billion people on Nov. 15, and the next billion won’t be reached for another 15 years. A population of 8 billion people has just been reached on planet Earth, with this number continuing to grow. Crypto adoption is also increasing rapidly. According to Worldometer, which gets its estimates from a 2022 United Nations report, the global population hit 8 billion on Nov. 15 – only 48 years after it had doubled from 4 billion in 1974.
According to Worldometer, the global population is expected to reach 9 billion by 2037 and 10 billion by 2080. The annual growth rate currently sits at 0.84%, but it is projected to continue slowing down. China and India are home to almost 36% of the world’s population combined.
Though there’s no clear agreement on how many people worldwide own digital assets like cryptocurrency, some estimates say it could be as high as 10.2%. Most ownership is biased toward countries with high inflation or where the value of their currency often changes.
The global crypto ownership rate is projected to be 4.2% by the year 2022, with over 320 million users worldwide according to Singapore-based blockchain firm TripleA. They reported that the United States was in the lead with 46 million holders, followed by India, Pakistan, and Nigeria. Earlier this year, Cointelegraph reported Blockware Intelligence’s prediction that Bitcoin adoption would hit 10% globally by 2030.
According to the 2022 Global Crypto Adoption Index from Chainalysis, Vietnam is in the lead for adoption rates, with the Philippines, India, Ukraine, and United States rounding out the top five. The 146 countries studied were ranked on a scale of one to five in categories such as infrastructure development and regulation.
China is a difficult country to ascertain the level of crypto ownership. A large portion of people in the world’s most populous country is understood to be tech-savvy and hungry for crypto. However, the ruling regime has other ideas at the moment. No accurate crypto ownership figures are available.
